Trailmark Capital was formed in 2011 by Carlos Trujillo in order to invest in underperforming real estate assets in Denver, CO. The firm began by investing in foreclosed and bank owned single-family properties that required extensive renovation in order to be repositioned as cash flow positive rental properties. After proving the model for two years, the company moved into the multi-family space in 2013 applying a similar investment process to distressed and underperforming apartments.

Since inception, the company has acquired and repositioned a total of 500+ apartments with total market values of approximately $60,000,000. Beginning in late 2016, the company began expanding its footprint beyond Colorado and has purchased and repositioned apartments in select markets in the Midwest and Southeastern region of the United States.

In late 2017, the company expanded into commercial space with a retail/office center in Summit County, CO.

Mr. Trujillo’s career began as an investment banker for George K. Baum & Co. in Denver, CO where he specialized in student housing and special district financings. Over the course of his career at GKB, Mr. Trujillo underwrote approximately $1 billion of municipal bonds.

Subsequent to his time as an underwriter for GKB, Mr. Trujillo raised $500 million in equity for fixed income based alternative investment funds tied to the bank owned and corporate owned life insurance market (BOLI/COLI) for Borealis Partners.

Mr. Trujillo has a BA in International Business from the University of Michigan and has native fluency in Spanish.

When not working, he can be found serving as Vice Chair on the Board of Directors for Colorado Public Television or trying to keep up with his wife and two sons as they carve up the slopes of Vail, CO.
